Friston House, Hastings
Project type
Surveys for structural buildings
Date
November 2022
Location
Hastings
R Vint Engineering Ltd was commissioned by Home Group (HG) in November 2022 to undertake a structural survey to determine the condition of the existing structure of Friston House.
In previous reports the structure was described as a Large Panel System (LPS). This had raised concerns that the structure was not suitably designed for current design guides, especially in relation to disproportionate collapse. As part of RVE’s commission, the structure was to be analysed to determine if the structure was suitably designed for normal loading situations and for disproportionate collapse.
To allow this analysis to take place, CRL Surveys (CRL) was appointed to undertake ferro scanning around the structure in both the reinforced concrete walls and slabs. RVE was then able to create an analysis model in Tekla Structural Designer, utilising the CRL report findings to assess the structural condition of the building. Different loading combinations were used to check the overall stability and structural condition of individual elements and the structure as a whole to assess the viability of the existing structure.
