York Minster Works and Technology Hub: scaffold
Project type
Scaffold for a Grade I listed building
Location
York
Both the Works and Technology Hub and The Heritage Quad provide high-spec modern facilities for craftspeople including Minster stonemasons, and deliver training in modern techniques and processes to apprentices and students, working with state-of-the-art digital facilities.
For The Works and Technology Hub, RVE assisted with the temporary works design, working in close proximity to the Grade I listed York Minster. Key items to consider were the temporary stability of the existing workshop wall, any excavations along the party wall line, and the propping of timber joists until composite action with plywood stressed skin deck was achieved. We looked at the boundary wall and its condition in the temporary arrangement when the existing steel frame was demolished, and needed to fully understand the permanent design with a view to either:
(i) introducing temporary measures that could form part of the permanent works,
(ii) developing a temporary restraint arrangement that limited clashes with the permanent install.
