The Grand Roof Garden

RVE was asked to survey the roof of the Grade II listed The Grand in York, a large 5-star city-centre hotel. The hotel was looking for ways to build a garden on top of the hotel where they keep honeybees, so we surveyed the existing structure and provided a feasibility study of the roof to confirm what could be safely installed in terms of a green roof and/or planters.
The reason for the works was twofold; to beautify the flat roof finish and to provide a more local food source for the four beehives which are located on the roof.
