Structural design for a Grade II listed building

RVE was asked to assist our repeat collaborators Arkle Boyce with the conversion of an attic space of Grade II listed property 56 Goodramgate, York into a one-bed studio with associated new stairway. We provided the following:
1. Initial inspection and advice on condition and whether specialist timber inspection would be needed
2. Design to create new opening in 3rd floor plate
3. Possible design of strengthen in 2nd floor plate to support new stair
4. Design of new staircase
5. Design of lintel to permit opening at second floor to allow stairs to be accessed
6. Assessment of floor to prove it has capacity to support habitable load or subsequent strengthening
7. Possible truss alterations
We had significant dialogue with the City of York Council conservation officer during this project.
